ABOUT US
OffBeat is the UK’s only dedicated folk film club, hosting events that showcase documentaries about the culture of diverse communities in Britain. We show both traditional folk practices and modern cultural activities around the country. Most events take place at Walthamstow Trades Hall and SET Social in Peckham —community centres that highlight the inclusivity and community spirit central to our project.
OffBeat was founded by filmmaker Rita Conry and artist and designer Mike Hankin who grew up together in North London. Inspired by the folk clubs of the 1960s and 1970s, OffBeat sets out to create an inclusive space to share stories about British culture, warts and all.
In 2025, OffBeat started the OffBeat Folk Film Festival.
If you’re a filmmaker, want to help out, you have an idea for an event that you would like some help with, or anything else, you can reach us here or by emailing hello@offbeat.film
