OffBeat Presents: The Last Place in England

Following on from our sold out and very special event where we hosted Launette (NTS) and the one and only Maddy Prior of Steeleye Span, OffBeat is back, this time (and by popular demand) screening the 1970 documentary ‘The Last Place in England’ about the people who call Sennen in Cornwall, the westernmost settlement in England. This fascinating film features a host of incredible people but focuses on the eccentric and reclusive local man Cecil Roberts who lives with his donkey. We’re also going to be screening other films about people who live in close-knit communities across the country and, as usual, there will be merch, badges, pizza and cheap beer. We’re going to be screening it twice, once in our usual Monday night slot at the Walthamstow Trades Hall on the 9th of September and then again at SET Social in Peckham on the 12th of September. Doors open at 7pm and the films will start from 8pm. Our events usually last about two hours.

2024 OffBeat Conker Tournament & Mixer

You are invited to the first ever OffBeat Conker Tournament and Mixer. As the night gets nearer we will reveal more rules and information but, for now, book yourself a slot (there aren’t that many spaces I’m afraid!) and start planning your perfect conker collection. We'll make conkers for everyone, but if you want to prepare and bring your own that'd be great - there’s a great instructional page from The Peckham Conker Club that's pasted bellow.

Although everyone is welcome, this is intended a singles mixer for people between 30 and 40. It's not a dating event but a singles mixer, so we won't be matching people but will facilitate people exchanging details if it feels right. If you can put your pronouns before your name when you buy your tickets that'll help us out but don't feel you have to. It is, also of course, a competition and so there will be prizes and the winner will be the first name on our leader board.

We're also going to be showing films (of course). Honestly, who knows what'll happen - but conkers, single people, folk music, films, the pub and prizes sounds like a winning combination. There will also, and as always, be booze and badges. Come to the Prince George, E8 3AG on the 3rd of October 2024. The games will begin at 6:30pm so get there for 6:00pm. Tickets are £10 but they are going to sell out fast.

This is the link to the Peckham Conker Club's instructional tutorials.
