SpinOffBeat Presents: Bred and Born

Get Tickets

We are very excited to announce the first in what we hope will be a long line of SpinOffBeat events. Events which fall a little outside of our traditional folkie remit. So please join us at Staffordshire St on the 4th of December to watch the very special 1982 documentary Bred & Born, directed by Mary Pat Leece and Joanna Davis. Part research project, part experimental film, Bred & Born pulls together interviews with 4 generations of women from one East London family with insights from a discussion held by a local women’s circle. Set between the Shadwell estate the family grew up on and a local community centre, they discuss motherhood, work, community, class, identity and place. It's a very cool film and an amazing look into the lives and inner thoughts of working women in late 70s and early 80s London.

OffBeat Christmas

Get Tickets

Ho ho ho! Merry Christmas (ish). Anyway, even if we are a bit early, by goodness do we need a bit of cheer. It's been a tough year for everyone but don't worry, we've got you. No, we can't put Donald Trump back in box, no we can't stop Nigel Farage but can play some gentle archive documentaries about vaguely Christmassy topics in a folk key. And that's exactly what we're going to do. So join us on the 8th of December at The Walthamstow Trades Hall for the last OffBeat Folk Film Club of 2025. As always you can expect cheap beer, good cheer.

The films will start at around 7:30pm but doors are at 6:30pm so come down early to grab a seat and a pizza from Yard Sale (20% off with a ticket!)
